About Louis Jartz

August 9, 1906 - December 9, 1997

Louie, as he was known, was a happy Slovenian. He loved nature and especially his garden. He was self-taught and well-read. His subjects and opinions were always thought-provoking. Louie wrote numerous articles that were published in the Prosveta, under the titles, "My Mixed Up World" and "This Mixed Up World". He had terrible handwriting and said that he should have been a doctor where bad handwriting was accepted. Eventually, he learned to type, hunt and peck style, and found a larger audience for his wisdom and witticisms:

Life is for the living.

Be a cheerful idiot.

In order to be a world changer, you'd have to have the soul of a poet and the hide of a rhinoceros.

If a person doesn't know how to dance, they don't know how to live.

Louie made a handmade card for his wife, Betty, which read, "a lopsided heart from a lopsided guy" and sent it air mail by tossing into the air. Louie became a 50 year member of the SNPJ in 1983 and was a great asset to the lodge as well as to other Slovenian based organizations promoting fraternalism and culture everywhere he went. Louie also touted a healthy life style of activity, part of which was dancing and every Sunday, during the summer, you could always find him and his beloved wife, Betty, twirling on the dance floor at SNPJ Farm and they're still dancing their way in eternity.
